So I figured I would listen to the whole soundtrack.
So ready for this week to be over.

"I am a man of constant sorrow" grew on me even though I'd not normally listen to that sort of song. Spotify is doing weird things to my music rotation.

There are three versions of it on the soundtrack. The regular one, an instrumental one, then this one, which is my favorite.

Wow. Much mellower and far less twangy than the version that kept sneaking onto my online radio.

Actually, there are 4 versions. Forgot about the other vocal version. The other instrumental is pretty awesome as well.
I love music like this. But then I also love all other kinds of music too.
If you haven't, you should check out the soundtrack. Some decent stuff on there. Like Ralph Stanley's "O Death".

This movie and soundtrack caused a surge in popularity of Bluegrass music. There is a complexity to it that you don't find in much modern country music, and the communal nature of having many people standing around a single mic makes it very special. Dan Tyminski sang "Constant Sorrow." He's a fabulous musician, who has many recordings, notably with Union Station. It's a great movie, and a fabulous soundtrack.
This particular song: Call and response FTW. Work songs like this were tremendously influential in later jazz music.

Seems like a good thing to fill the silence while I study for my certs. I have pretty diverse tastes in music but don't actively seek out certain types. It makes for nice surprises on services like Pandora or Spotify which try to "guess" what other stuff you like.

I've always been a fan of bluegrass and even old country music, when it was more bluegrass-ish and less pop/whiny/all sounding the same shit it is now.
And I love seeing bluegrass music live. Like you said, it is great seeing a great group of musicians all playing TOGETHER with each other.
I am a fan of Mumford and Sons, and I think that is the draw to them. I am not comparing in them to bluegrass, but they have that feel of a group of musicians playing together, in stead of one guy with a band behind him.
If you can't tell, I love music, about as much as I love automotive things.

I play music for a living, either in an orchestra or freelance (trumpet). There's nothing quite like the feeling of 80 musicians on stage together pushing something over the top. Exciting as hell. I've always hated being a soloist, would much rather play chamber music or something else collaborative.

Man, that is awesome! Wish I had some kind of talent. I have an ear for music, and actually made some "electronic" music a long time ago (before every bro was doing it) and even remixed a few songs. Then the computer crashed and it was all gone.
But I still love messing with a piano, guitar, or whatever else I can get my hands on. I have two little girls and they are interested in music as well, so I do what I can to keep them interested. We let them listen to a bunch of different stuff like bluegrass, pop, classical, rock, rap, EDM, country and pretty much anything else that won't fill their heads with nonsense.
Sorry, I get a little "rambley" when I start talking about music. It is just so awesome. HAHAHA!

No worries. Remember, the word amateur comes from the Latin word meaning to love . We tend to think of an amateur as somebody who is bad at something, when we should really consider an amateur a person who does something for the love of doing it. Rock on, man.
